Intermedia #2

My original presentation was taking a stance on gay rights and gay marriage. Clearly there are many different attitudes that people take on this issue. I fought for the side that tries to protect those in our society who have been ridiculed and segregated because of their sexual orientation. I do not believe that homosexuals should have a lower quality of living because of whom they love.
Another way to look at this issue is to through the lens of the side that believes homosexuals are sinners and must be saved. In my presentation I used the Westbro church to show how ridiculous these extremist can be. However, this does not mean that everyone who opposes gay marriage is a nut. A common interpretation of the Bible states that being gay is a sin. More times than not those who dispute gay marriage are only trying to save their fellow man from committing a sin. Religious followers are simply trying to spread what they believe to be the truth about homosexuality. These people (for the most part) are not bigots or even morally corrupt people, they are only trying to inform those who are sinning that they are condemned unless they repent.

This battle of weather being gay is ok will not be resolved soon. The only way to make progress with this issue is to understand both parties’ options. I feel this resolution will not happen for some time.

SPACE #2

My issue was on Space Exploration, my impression was to tell the class about space travel and then talk about how no one on a governmental basis is doing anything while, and private companies and other countries are making moves to improve their space programs. My stance was to give an idea on what the private companies are doing and what we can do right now to aid them or do it on our own to explore our universe that we know so little about, and we won’t be able to catch up while it continues to expand exponentially.

A way I can go about it is from the standpoint of the companies and why they are doing it and what they are doing to help the space program and what other people could benefit from it through, ideas, funding, or even taking part in the company’s construction of these spacecraft’s. Also by starting with complete silence instead of explaining at first will give a sense of space and try to put the classroom in the shoes of the people who do travel to space. My media could change in by showing some others clips or pictures of other programs other then Lockheed that are doing space exploration to give a bigger idea of how many companies are trying to talk place in this reach for exploring our universe.

My issue was the topic of burning books. I came from the standpoint that it is widely unacceptable to do so in any manner. Burning books deprives future generations of a complete literary history, and just because an individual or group has a personal issue with a certain text, there is no justification for burning such delicacies. I think authors and artists throughout history that made the request that their works be burned, or took it upon themselves to do so is extremely tragic and thought provoking in terms of their place in history. How would society be different if the biblical stories had been burned?

I find myself drawn to the perspective of those who do find satisfaction in activist book burnings. I hadn’t considered the idea of burning books like 50 Shades of Grey but this crazy kid on youtube made me realize that there might be some validity in burning things like this that, I believe, are a complete waste of paper and shelf space. Though I do not think I would take my next performance to quite the same extreme, I do think I could find satisfaction in burning thinks like this that have absolutely no redeeming qualities about them. The writing is so horrific it is distracting to the over-all story, which, to my understanding, is amateur literary pornography. I could change my media by holding a much more ceremonial book burning in which I burn books I personally have an issue with. This would suit my new perspective that would appear to be a fairly polar opposite from my original, and very opposing perspective. By burning things I deem unnessary to be passed to future generations, I am leaving behind a better, more controlled, history.

Ethnography; Batman and His Critics

Carlos Villagrana
Professor Hoyt
Ethnography Assignment
10/21/13

The issue that was addressed at my presentation was how certain actors have either had an amazing performance review by the critics in their roles portraying the vigilante/Dark Knight the Batman as well as the billionaire Bruce Wayne. I was advocating that all of the famous actors such as Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, and Christian Bale all had spectacular performances as the Dark Knight. However, I am giving my statement a bias towards the performances of these actors because I have a lifestyle that is revolving Batman and what he as a man and as a symbol tries to do for others. This bias is not good for my reviews and such, my opinions do not have a great deal of significance If I cannot look aside the portrayals, and instead focus on how the actors have either made a name for the Batman or have either sent them down the drain.
A different stance that others might approach the role playing of the Batman is how all of these actors gave the Batman their own unique image and added to the legend. The interpretation of how actors might view Bruce Wayne/Batman can add to the already controversial role that has taken the movie production business into a new level of controversy it has not seen. The adding of Ben Affleck now playing the Caped Crusader ought to be good since we do not know what he can bring to the table. We already know that he will be an older, wiser Bruce Wayne and Batman, but we do not know how he will portray the role as he sees it rather than the way the role has already been seen in past films as the Nolan Trilogy, the Joel Schumacher twins, and the Tim Burton films that we already know about. The Zac Snyder imagination of the character will be a fantastic way to see a new Bruce Wayne and Batman.
Some other type of technology that can be explored can also be the Batman videogames such as the Arkham Asylums and Arkham Origins that is due out later this week. We can also get a vision of how these video game producers might have their own vision of the Batman and how he handles the business of Gotham at night. Nevertheless, it is still a controversial role to be playing and future producers might have to recall past reviews to see where they can add their own unique vision of the Dark Knight and his symbolism that he is always trying to instill.

Tuesday Ethnography Assignment

My topic was coral reef destruction. This has to do with the study of how coral reefs are being destroyed from environmental issues and human pressures. It is connected to global warming and humans are the ones who have to do something to stop coral reef destruction. My stance on coral reef destruction was that coral reefs are being destroyed and this will ruin the ocean structure. Humans are the main cause of coral reef destruction. Something has to be done to help stop coral reef destruction. It will only take small changes to stop global warming which would stop coral reef destruction.
A different perspective that could be seen on this stance would be, yes there is coral reef destruction but it is not from humans. It is something that happens naturally and we cannot control it. It’s the earth’s way of changing and evolving. We should not worry about losing species in the oceans because they will learn to adapt with the coral reefs as they change and may disappear.
I would change my media by not showing pictures of before and after pictures of coral reefs but pictures of how other species have evolved with their environment and are still alive today. The Swedish fish from my first performance I could still use. The Swedish fish would still relate to coral reefs and the different color Swedish fish could show how fish have changed with the coral reef destruction.

Gluten Free: Not as Annoying as I Think it is

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Gluten!

My issue deals with the propagation of gluten free as a healthy choice made by conscious consumers. My stance on this issue was that being gluten free for no other reason than to feel healthy is a pointless act that will only lead to the annoyance of others, (friends, family, and people who actually suffer from celiac) while putting a strain on your pocket book, and a burden on your body that is being deprived of whole grains, and to add fuel to this gluten free fire it forces an unnecessary attention to anything that has to do with eating or drinking.

My new perspective will look into the health benefits of being gluten free, as told by my friends who choose to eat a diet that is free of gluten. Since the new consumer market is so accommodating to this latest trend, I will also look into the simplicity of making the change from eating gluten to being gluten free. To change my media into pro gluten free, my next performance will incorporate an interview with my friend who has made the decision to be gluten free despite being able to ingest, digest, and take nutrients from foods that contain gluten. I will also look into getting food that has a gluten free option. (This will not be pizza, because lets face it, I’m not going to buy two more pizzas for this class)
