Intermedia project SPACE

Space
My issue is on the space travel and the U.S. governments neglect to it, and how other private companies and public companies are making moves to put people into space. Since we landed on the moon there has never been another trip to it, we have neglected the mission to mars, and as of 2011 the government has discontinued the space shuttle, since the international space station has been finished. Space exploration and the advances in technology has since has made space travel easier, but the cost efficiency has been neglected. Private companies look further into it then the government, since space is difficult to access the private companies have made it easier and we continue to abandon it.
My personal relationship to this issue is the fact of how much space interests me I think it is the most interesting thing because we know so little about it. The fact that we barley have pictures of planets and galaxy’s not what’s on the surface of them and the billions of stars in the universe that we know so little about. It’s mystery is what I think is the most interesting thing about it. There are these extensive pictures of space and galaxies that we can only look at in amazement on how crazy big and start filled they are.
The U.S. is barley-funding N.A.S.A. and isn’t doing anything big at the moment to push for mars like they pushed for the moon during JFK’s Presidency, especially that massive amounts of private companies are spending money trying to do something in space while America sits around and does nothing.
The opposing stance on this issue is the fact that it is dangerous to send a person to another planet in which we know little about. Risk their lives on a mission 6 months of space travel away from earth to land on a dust bowl. The cost that it would take to fund this research with taxpayer money would be extensive. The fact that no one else is big on it like they were in the 1960’s is a disturbing thought as we go through global warming and the earth is not doing any better.
The media looks at space rarely unless there is a discovery or when big things happen in the space world such as the mars rover that recently landed curiosity in 2012 that was the eighth rover to land on space and the average person wouldn’t know that. By understanding space and delving further into it will allow us to possibly focus on something as a whole rather then a single country try to look beyond our country lines and finding solutions for certain problems that we face on earth and possibly improve upon them. The media that I did use in association to this is the photograph of two galaxies spinning together slowly colliding, in the future millions of years from now but will eventually collapse on each other creating one super galaxy that could cause stars and planets within it to collapse and crash into each other. The other is an artist’s depiction of the curiosity rover on mars. Both of these photographs shows what we are able to do with technology for the past 50 years imagine what we could do if we as earth put our heads together and started funding space exploration more, we could be on mars, and venturing beyond our own solar system looking for other planets like ours for life or a future place to inhabit.

  1. Taylor - as we talked about in class, try and juxtapose a cacophony of sensory stimuli - like an intense soundscape or lighting - with a complete sensory deprivation. Perhaps you suddenly pull the sound and switch off the lights to not only illustrate the isolation of space, but as a symbol for our discontinuation of the space program
